The Northern Institute of Massage Therapy has certain application requirements for prospective students interested in the Advanced Therapeutic Massage program.
Applicants must meet one of the following two criteria:
1. Successful completion of Northern Institute of Massage Therapy’s Basic Relaxation Massage program, or
2. Official proof of successful completion of an equivalent program/programs as recognized by the Registrar of Northern Institute of Massage Therapy.
Training Outside of Northern Institute of Massage Therapy
For those students who have completed their first year of training elsewhere and are considering attending the second year Advanced Therapeutic Massage program the procedure is as follows:
1. Provide the Registrar of Northern Institute of Massage Therapy with documentation of previous training consisting of a minimum of 1000 hours of instruction (transcript, Certificate, Diploma etc.)
2. Upon review of the documentation, the Registrar may request one or a combination of the following in order to confirm an applicant's suitability for the program:
A personal interview
Completion of a Proficiency examination administered by Northern Institute of Massage Therapy
Provision of a clearly legible Doctor's note stating that the applicant is physically capable of working as a massage therapist
Perform a massage treatment
In the event that a Proficiency Examination is required, a sitting fee of $150.00 will be required in advance of the examination. Topics will include all items listed in the content description for the Basic Relaxation Massage program. All examinations must be completed one month prior to the class start date.
