Programs provided by the Northern Institute of Massage Therapy in Alberta are a unique combination of classroom instruction, home study assignments, correspondence and work experience. This allows students to continue working or raising a family while achieving a higher level of education and obtaining a new profession. Although attendance is mandatory for classroom instruction, the majority of time is spent on assignments, home study, massage practice, and work experience.
The majority of our students have secured massage employment prior to completion of the Basic Massage program. When they continue on to the second year Advanced Therapeutic Massage program, they are in the unique position of attending school while working in the profession. This puts our students at a distinct advantage because they can bring their questions and comments back to class for discussion and direction. Also, because our graduates do not need any additional post graduate training they are in high demand in the profession and requests for our graduates currently exceed supply.
