Petra is the senior massage instructor at Northern Institute of Massage Therapy. She is a Manual Osteopath, Registered Massage Therapist (graduate of Northern Institute of Massage Therapy) and Certified Laser Technician with a busy, multi-disciplinary practice in Red Deer, Alberta. As a certified Lensen™ practitioner and instructor, she continues to work with Len Balogh at the National Manual Osteopathic College to refine both her instruction and practice of the modality. Petra is also a founding member of the Fascia Research Society and is interested in encouraging the dialogue and collaboration between clinicians, researchers and academicians. Her goal is to teach the manual art of massage, grounded in the science of anatomy and physiology, with laughter and the joy of learning.
Connie is a graduate of Northern Institute of Massage Therapy. She has 4+ years of College and University combined in areas of medical, coaching, teaching, business communications, administration and accounting.
Connie works in a busy Chiropractic and Massage Clinic where she has gained extensive experience treating Motor Vehicle Accident clients as well as reporting for legal cases. Connie also works out of her home part-time and has 5 years of experience working in senior care homes.
She specializes in therapeutic massage, Lensen, Swedish relaxation, and senior care. She loves working with cases no one else can solve. Her main areas of interest are MVA’s, sports therapy and senior care.
Connie is active in her community and has acted as Zone 2 Representative for Alberta Summer Games Athletics for Athletics Alberta for 4 years and Head Coach for 2 years, achieving the award for Most Improved Zone. She enjoys hiking, snowshoeing, swimming, fishing and reading.
She believes in the motto ‘learn to do by doing’. Her passion is to encourage students to reach their full potential.
Heather graduated from the Massage Therapy Program at McEwan University. After finishing her 2200 hours in 2014 she began her massage career in Cold Lake, Alberta. In 2016 she started her own clinic turning it into a thriving, successful business.
She specializes in Pre/Post-natal, Deep Tissue, Therapeutic, Wellness and more. Her clients describe her as thoughtful, helpful and amazing. Heather also has a kind nature which helps her to be a compassionate teacher. She goes the extra mile to ensure students understand tough concepts.
Working in the industry ensures Heather will have real world experience in which to pass onto her students.
Debra has been a resident of Red Deer since 1987. She graduated from Technical Theatre from Red Deer College and earned her Education Degree from Burman University. Her vast knowledge and experience in education and theatre enhances the creativity and integrity of the college. Her passion is driven by working beside students and helping them succeed and achieve their goals. Debra looks forward to helping the students at the Northern Institute of Massage Therapy. Anyone wishing to apply for employment and to be a massage instructor with the Northern Institute of Massage Therapy must meet the following criteria:
1. The applicant must present a certificate or professional designation specific to their field of massage therapy.
2. The applicant must be a current member in good standing of a recognized association.
3. The applicant must be actively working in their specific field of instruction. The applicant must have a minimum of 3 years of work experience in said field.
4. The applicant must supply proof of experience instructing adult learners.
5. Other credentials required will include: Standard First Aid and Level C CPR for Adults and Children, General and Malpractice Insurance Coverage.
6. The applicant must agree to abide by the teaching philosophy of Northern Institute of Massage Therapy: that in order to address all types of learners all course materials must be presented in 3 separate ways:
Adult learners want specific information and are not content to memorize lists of information. Instructors must realize this and be capable of providing information in a manner suited to this type of student. The applicant should also understand that we believe that our students will meet the standards set for them, and therefore we have set the minimum pass requirement at 75% in all subjects. This requires a significant personal investment from our students, but also from our instructors as well.
